Being a photographer is synonymous with being a collector, gathering images, recording moments and cataloging events. Creating art for me comes from a deep interest in science and biology. I value plants as totally artistic architectural structures and I’m intrigued by their elements, cell shapes, fractals and vibrancy. With an acute sensitivity to today’s persistent bombardment of digital noise, my observations and collection of subject matter returns me to a serene space where I can breathe, meditate and reconnect with simple beauty. While on a walk or in my garden the patterns in nature distract me. The apparent sensuality beguiles, the delicate smells entice, the duality of (their) fragility and strength captivates me. They remind me of how short life is. The enormous digital files allow me to print large scale enveloping the viewer in the intimacy and vulnerability of nature. Working with scientists, musicians, conservationists, horticulturists, and galleries local and around the world, I hope to push the boundaries of what has traditionally been considered part of the botanical illustration genre.
